The City of Bellevue, WA, offers an outstanding opportunity for a forward-thinking police leader to become an Assistant Chief and work under the guidance of Police Chief Stephen Mylett, who has led the department the past five years. The next Assistant Chief will be an excellent communicator who will earn the community’s trust and the respect of the command staff and line-level employees.
This position will be considered “open” until a final selection is made. The first review of applications will occur on December 18, 2020. Candidates are strongly encouraged to apply early for optimal consideration. Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the selection process. After the selection, an offer will follow contingent on the successful completion of a detailed law enforcement background investigation and other City hiring requirements. Ideally, the new Assistant Chief will join the City of Bellevue in early 2021 or upon a mutually agreed date.

*Note: The City of Bellevue does not participate in Social Security, which means employees do not contribute to or earn Social Security credit while employed with the City. Further, the Social Security Administration applies a formula containing an offset to take into account employment with a nonparticipating employer. The Social Security offsets are explained in the Municipal Employee Benefits Trust – City of Bellevue Retirement Benefit Plan Summary Plan Description. They are also described in the Social Security Administration Publications 05-10045 for the Windfall Elimination Provision and 0510007 for the Government pension Offset which can be found on the Social Security website ****. However, as a City of Bellevue employee, you may be eligible to participate in the Municipal Employee Benefit Trust (MEBT) plan; and depending on eligibility, there is also mandatory participation in the State Retirement Plan (PERS).
