ABOUT THE POSITION
The Clark County Juvenile Justice department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Assistant Manager position. This position plans, supervises, coordinates, reviews and evaluates the work of staff and activities of a major Juvenile Justice Services program through subordinate supervision.
This class provides second-level supervision over supervisory, professional, technical and office support staff required to implement a major programmatic area for the provision of juvenile services for delinquent youth and their families. In addition to the oversight of staff, the work involves assisting in such administrative functions as developing and implementing procedures and work standards and assisting with the budget for the program. This class is distinguished from Manager of Juvenile Justice Services in the latter has division-level management responsibilities for multiple programs and services.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.
Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.
Some positions may be used to fill term Limited-Permanent positions. The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment. The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.
Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available.
Some positions may be confidential positions and are excluded from membership in the union.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, a behavioral science, Social Work, Business or Public Administration, or a field related to the work, and five (5) years of full-time experience in detention, probation, protective services, child welfare, or the direct delivery of therapeutic or social services in a juvenile justice system setting, two (2) years of which are in a supervisory role.
Must be capable of passing P.O.S.T. pre-agility Fitness Standards as defined by N.A.C. 289.300 (1) (f). Possession of an advanced degree is desirable.

Working Conditions:
Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Work under potentially life-threatening emergency conditions. Work in violent, traumatic or highly charged emotional environments. Specified positions may be assigned to a remote work site at high elevation. May be subject to exposure to blood and air borne diseases.
Licensing and Certification:
Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment. Must possess a valid P.O.S.T. Category II, or higher, certificate.
Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted. Must not have any qualifying offense that violates the standards required by NRS 62B.223 and/or NRS 62G.223.
Medical Examination:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Plans, organizes, administers, reviews and evaluates the work of staff through subordinate supervisors. Oversees or provides for the selection, training, professional development and discipline of staff. Develops and implements goals, procedures and work standards for the program to which assigned; provides input into and oversight of the program's budget; participates in division strategic planning activities. Supervises staff, activities and physical facilities at a youth camp or other institution; provides for support services, including assessment, intervention and treatment for both clients and their family members. Supervises staff and activities designed to provide educational, recreational, behavior modification and related services at various facilities and sites. Supervises juvenile probation staff and activities to support specific alternative or other probation-related programs. Serves as a member of the division management team; coordinates services and programs of the division with those of other divisions and departments to provide for the most effective service programs for juveniles; acts for the division manager on a relief basis or as assigned. Monitors on-line services and client service delivery for goal attainments and client access; implements changes as required for maximum effectiveness. Directs the maintenance of or maintains accurate case records, files and documentation. Communicates frequently with the public and other treatment professionals regarding coordination of programs and treatment issues; responds to and resolves concerns and complaints of staff, public and other treatment professionals. Performs a variety of special studies and reviews; evaluates alternatives, makes recommendations and prepares narrative and statistical reports; develops training programs and educational materials related to area of assignment. Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; may drive a personal or County motor vehicle or make arrangements for appropriate transportation to attend off-site meetings and make site visits. Performs additional duties as necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Mobility to work in a typical court, detention or public safety setting, including stamina to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time, and strength to restrain, arrest and/or eject individuals; drive a motor vehicle in order to attend meetings or visit client homes; vision to use standard office equipment and read printed materials including a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone; physical and psychological characteristics to meet and maintain P.O.S.T. guidelines. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.
